HIGHER ELECTRICITY RATES AND FEWER JOBS;
Washington, D.C.—The House of Representatives “passed the bill” to Hoosier families today through the passage of the cap and trade bill, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. The carbon cap and trade scheme included in the bill unfairly burdens Indiana while benefiting other regions of the nation. Congressman Buyer continues to oppose the legislation that would impose a national energy tax on the United States.

CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS GIVE PRIORITY TO INTERNATIONAL BAILOUTS, NOT TROOPS
Washington, D.C.—Last month, the House of Representatives passed a clean, troop funding bill that drew bipartisan support. Today, congressional Democrats passed the War Supplemental Conference Report that will spend more money on a bail-out for foreign countries, like Iran and Syria, than our own troops. The War Supplemental Conference Report also funds a number of other programs—which have nothing to do with the defense of the nation and were not included in the original House bill. Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) opposed the Conference Report, H.R. 2346.

BUYER PROMOTES BETTER PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY;
Washington, D.C.—The House of Representatives today passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1256, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate tobacco products. The FDA is already an over-stressed and under-resourced federal agency which will now be burdened with responsibilities that goes against its core mission—ensuring the safety of our nation’s food, drugs, and medical devices—to regulate an inherently risky product. Congressman Steve Buyer’s (IN-04) mission is to improve the nation’s public health, and he believes there is better policy to help smokers quit than the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1256.

ALL PAIN AND NO GAIN;
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) released the following statement upon the passage of the Cap and Trade legislation out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Congressman Buyer opposed The American Clean Energy and Security Act, H.R. 2454, because the legislation unfairly burdens Indiana while benefiting other regions of the United States. The bill passed on a party line vote of 33 to 25.
