Boone County
Requested by: Boone County Board of Commissioners
Amount: $4 million
Project Description, Purpose and Taxpayers'Benefit: $4 million in funding for construction of an intersection as part of the 146th street expansion, which is part of an overall highway plan involving four projects centered on the I-65/SR267 interchange in Boone County. The County is pursuing the extension of the 146th Street Corridor from the Hamilton County line to I-65. Hamilton County has begun the design of their portion of 146th Street, and will ultimately result in a four lane parkway from the Boone County line to Spring Mill Road. This project will help ease east west congestion mitigation between I-69 and I-65. These funds will be used for for the development and construction of the 146th Street extension from US 421 in Boone County, Indiana to I-65 and specifically, the application will provide funding for the construction of the CR400E and CR400S intersection, located directly east of the I-65 interchange. This is an intersection between the I-65 interchange and Anson on the 146th corridor, where a significant number of trucks have a difficult time navigating the turns and as the development expands the need will only increase. Traffic lines up at the intersection, which has really poor sight distance, and both Anson and the County have identified this intersection as one that really needs to be fixed. The expansion of 146th street received previous federal funding in the amount of $855,000 in Fiscal Year 2009. This request constitutes 80% of the intersection construction cost of $5 million.
Committee: Transportation
Project Name: I-65 Interchange Planning, Acquisition and Design
Johnson County
Requested by: City of Greenwood and Johnson County Board of Commissioners
Amount: $3.68 million
Project Description, Purpose and Taxpayers'Benefit: $3.68 million to fund land acquisition and design phase for construction of an interchange at I-65 and County road 700 North to help move traffic and make travel more safe through several counties in the immediate vicinity. The new Interchange on I-65 would be at the mid-point in a 5-mile stretch from the current Greenwood exit (Exit #99) to the Whiteland exit. The interchange, coupled with road widening occurring on Worthsville Road both east and west of the proposed interchange, will bring significant economic development to the multi-county region. This interchange would connect I-65 to the proposed east-west arterial route that would serve the northern portion of Johnson County. Presently, individuals traveling east-west in the northern portion of the County, which is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area, are forced to use primarily two-lane, rural County roads that were never designed to handle the traffic volumes which they must endure on a daily basis. In conjunction with other local communities, such as the City of Greenwood, Shelby County and the City of Shelbyville, Johnson County will be undertaking the construction of the East-West Transportation Enhancement Project. This Project will ultimately increase connectivity between major north-south corridors on the south-side of Indianapolis by providing a specific route for through-traffic traveling between these north-south roads. This project received previous federal funding for a preliminary engineering study and $237,500 in Fiscal Year 2009 funds. This request constitutes 80% of the total cost of $4.6 million for the project.
